Article about: They obviously never knew what hit 'em. But it is sobering to realize that indiviuals died wearing those lids... heads turned to strawberry jam.

German mess kit from Narva front. The name reads Drews, can anyone say something about the soldier's possible nationality?

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

    Ouch!

Not enough Advil in the world to cure that headache!!

Still a great lid and good pics - thanks for posting.

I wonder, which projectile/grenade shard made the metal bulge outwards (unless the lid was hit inside the helmet shell), but then I guess strange things happens, when metal flies this away and that way.

Maybe the sheer force of the impact of the small projectile made it bulge outwards a bit.
