I dont think i have ever seen such a large veritety of items found on the battle feilds , so many personal items would suggest to me this place was left alone for many many years .Sad to think of all those fallen soldats lying there for so long .Now a new generation of young men are on these battlefields searching them out and sending them home , i cant think of a better way to honour these fallen than to find them and send them home .Andrey and Maxim ,fantastic work , well done from far away New Zealand , cheers Raymond

what really baffles me is what were the german forces doing that far north???? there is nothing there!!! and what were they fighting over??? its just wilderness,

There is Murmansk and in Petsamo were lot of nickel ore.

of course murmansk, thanks kala, although i should have known about murmansk my dad was on atlantic convoy service up there during ww2,

I often think, that was one of the ugliest job in war. Being in the ship in terrible weather and nothing to do but wait when the torpedo hits the ship. Cold water and I don´t know if any ship in the conwoy comes to help you. Probably they just left you behind and keep full speed so no more casualties come.

And you do not know, it is obvious, that the biggest port behind polar circle-it Murmansk. And it does not freeze in the winter! You do not know, that the material for the Germany nuclear project too is here. You do not know what copper, nickel, silver, molybdenum here is extracted in great volumes?
