    I know this is a very old thread, but I've came back to it and read the story several times now. Truely an amazing thing you did John, and thanks for sharing it with us. Hopefully some of the newer members can read all this and it will probably remind many of the possibility of finding remains whilst out searching for relics.

    Superb story and an honourable deed John. I'm glad you were there as witness to the final act in this soldiers life.

    Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

    Awesome story, it must 've been véry satisfying to be a part of this and experience this whole process.
    Tell me / us how you experiences the funeral and the meeting with the family...

    New Zealand had a recent discovery there. a local farmers 6 year old daughter found a dogtag which belonged to an ANZAC Soldier, which was recorded as MIA, he was given a Burial at the local cementry, although his body was never found.
