I was thinking ebay rather than amongst the rich dark earth, would set it off a treat!
It would indeed. However, I have to say I have never bought anything of e-bay to 'go' with my relics as I prefer them just as that.
nice one steve. l appreciate you picking up the bren mag winder for me. a wise man once told me to never throw anything away.
that dump just gets better and better.
you might not believe this but in a strange twist of fate i picked up a besa 2 weeks ago that was missing the pistol grip. who knows it may even be that one you dug up. so can i have it back please
some great finds there
rick
LOL! Bring the BESA with you on the next dig and I'll bring the trigger mech.....
Some more cleaned stuff, a couple of which I need help IDing please.
Mk 2 Bren 100 round magazine winding handle
Sten trigger housing
Bren carry handle. This was the best of the 20 or more uncovered at the site.
Another relic in remarkable condition given the time it has spent in the earth.
Bren gas regulator.
Onto the two bits I need help with.
At first I thought this was a piece of stock furniture from a Lee-Enfield but now I am not so sure.
Recognise it? Post please if you do!
And this is the other bit.
I have pictured it with the Sten cover so you get an idea of size. It is quite heavy for its size so it is making me think something like a breech block. The hole in the end is confusing me though, as is the clear line near the bottom, indicating the bottom portion 'attaches' to the top portion. Could the hole be where the guide rod for the spring went? If so, is it a breech block, and what off? Curious.......
Hi Steve,
The piece you thought might be from a Lee Enfield is the front cap from the top hand guard from a No 4 , so you were correct in your assumption.
