Cold winter nights make thoughts turn to summer digging. I was fortunate to help out with a dig on a Dambuster Lancaster a few years ago. It survived the raid on the Sorpe dam only to be lost dropping supplies to the resistance later in the war. The bomb aimer on the Dams raid attended the dig, as did relatives of the Canadian pilot killed in the crash.

Yes Danmark, it went out as "Last of the Dambusters" in the UK and Canada. It was an excellent documentary, introducing some of the combatants face to face. The change in the bomb aimers attitude over the course of the program was astonishing. There are clips here: Last of the Dambusters (Part 3) - YouTube (avert your eyes for the grenade, not best practice)
It was McCarthy's aircraft on the raid, switched at the last moment after their Lanc went unserviceable. The button is an escape compass, next to part of an oxygen gauge. I'm pretty sure the last photos are part of the top frame of the rear crew entrance door, unpleasantly peppered with flak damage.
