The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

    1st July 1916

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

    Digging in the rain :)

The 369th Reinforced Infantry Regiment (also known as the Croatian Legion) formed in 1941 with 9000 volunteers made up of Croatian Catholics and Bosnian Muslims that fought alongside the German Wehrmacht in the German invasion of the Soviet Union. All of the soldiers wore German uniforms with insignia consisting of a Croatian checkerboard patch with the word "Hrvatska" or "Croatia" on it. This unit was attached to the 100th Jager Division on the Eastern Front. On September 25, 1942, the 6th Army entered Stalingrad where they fought in the Red October Factory, where very few men from the 369th survived after their positions were overrun by the Russians. In January 1943, the German 6th Army surrendered to the Russians, along with the remaining soldiers from the 369th Croatian Regiment. "The Croatian Legion 1941" Linden Leaf badge was awarded to the former veterans of the regiment who survived the battle in Stalingrad.

    Digging in the rain :)

There were approximately 1,000 of these former veterans of the original Croatian Regiment. They were all awarded a special honor badge called the "Croatian Legion Badge - 1941" shaped as a Linden leaf with the Croat checkerboard and the words "Hrvatska Legija - 1941" on it.

Its rare and i like it!

Fantastic. Agreed, the leaf shape is unusal and I understand why you like it. Certainly a nice departure.
