Well worth the hard work i think!!
Do you have any info on these two Horsa data plates? My uncle found them years ago in Germany or France he cant remember. Any info would be really helpfull as i dont know anything about gliders. Thanks
Hi Philip and greeting from the area that glider probably flew from!
Going by what George, RMARGs 1946-90 RAF fitter, has told me over the years, I'm fairly sure that the plate with four holes is the original build/chassis plate. it's got all the right divisions and 'typ' on it.
The other plate is a modification ID plate- hence the 'MOD' and all the numbers. That doen't mean it's a 'special' glider, just that the specifications were upgraded through out the war- can also cover repairs, gliders were reused.
Both should have 'AI' numbers in small circles- these are the stamps of the aircraft inspectors- occasionaly traceable to factories, but it's alot of work. Otherwise these plates are largely untracable.
I'm geussing the last photo is part of the tail section- It's definatley airframe, we found lots of similar bits when RMARG dug one at Ramsbury that was used for training American troops in de-bus drills, then burnt.
Jim.

It's amazing how much this stuff is fetching these days - I can recall a guy who advertised in the Exchange & Mart magazine, circa 1981, selling these for a tenner a piece!.
