Nice find. I am station at Camp Casey South Korea. I would love to go to some battle sites. But non of my KATUSA friends seem to not know where any is or they just dont want to take me.
    Thanks~
If you're at Casey then you would be closer to the Imjin battlegrounds than most
others. It's a very good chance the KATUSAs don't have the slightest idea of what
battle took place where let alone guide you to one. Kinda like the typical American's
knowledge of Civil War battles: zilch.
While it's so fascinating to visit such battlesites, personally the "fun" is actually
pouring over various accounts, surrounded by maps and looking up at Google Earth
all at the same time just to find the place. So that's an idea, but~~
unless you have your own POV, it's nearly impossible to reach any sites. Public
transportation won't be enough. But I do hope you try and make it to several sites
because it's well worth the trip!
Ah~ there is a rail line that passes straight through Chipyongni if you wish to visit
    that famous battlesite.

Yeah, as for unexploded ordinance....I don't bother. While a number of uxo I come
across is harmless, but still, a bomb's a bomb and not worth the risk of injury, death
or authorities! And there's plenty of it out there, a short list of what I come across:
dozens of stick grenade variants, half dozen U.S. pineapple grenades, 1 rifle
grenade, half dozen mortar shells, another h.d. mills bombs, 2 landmines and 1
    105mm howitzer shell. So~~yeah.......I don't bother, ha~!

Last night I was googleling Camp Casey and found cordinates to a outpost battle site that took place here, also read about Major Casey's plane being shot down here. His crash site is 500 meters from my barracks and also read an account about the local villiagers fleeing the fighting going on around Camp Casey at the time of the war.So this weekend I think I will do some walking out the back gate up into the hills to see if I can find anything. And if I can get ahold of a GPS input the Grid Cordinates to the Casey battle site.

Seriously, good luck with that! It shouldn't be too hard to find and I guess the crash
site is/was marked with a concrete cross. If you should find it, I'd love to see a
    picture~

If you can find the location of old Camp Rice (now gone I understand) there is/was a ROK Army camp across the street. That would put it on the East side of the hard ball driving North. There is a cave there. It's a small hole that opens to huge rooms but there was a ton of hidden treasures in there. I just did'nt know at the time (1971) and we got lost in there.
If there is still a ROK camp there you will need to make a friend to get to it. It is a beautiful country with some really nice people away from the ville's.
See if you can find a really old Papa/Mama-san to befriend and they may show you things only they know about.

    Good luck, Rudy

I don't know why but after reading Karl's and panzer's replies an
ole' Shakespearean phrase came to mind, "And yet the worm turns" even though
    it's meaning doesn't suit the replies! ha~
But I'm definitely interested in a "Camp Rice" and I assume it's also north of seoul.
I served in Korea in '93 and worked Camp Page (Chuncheon), Camp Red Cloud
(Uijeongbu), and Camps Long and Eagle (Wonju) but only Red Cloud is still up and
running. The rest are closed, converted or obliverated.
I doubt there's any treasure, BUT if there is a cave leading to underground bunkers
then I'm sure it's still there. I've seen first hand at the ingenuity of CCF soldiers
and wouldn't be surprised. Ah~~ a new adventure awaits! Many thanks guys.

Forgive my U.S. translation (a traitor) of much admired Will Shakespeare!
