Thanks for the post John,im always following your threads as i know you've dug many a bullet. However i must have missed this one, thanks for the re-cap id like to see how far back this range actually goes
A man after my own heart !
The annulus (the ring around the blast cap), was also coloured to show what type of round the cartridge was loaded with. Here is a list for you for future reference
Bullet Type / Colour of Tip / Colour of Annulus
Armour Piercing / Green / Green
Ball / None / Purple
Incendiary / Blue / Blue
Observing / Black / Black
Proof / None / Yellow
Tracer Short Range / White / Red
Tracer Dark Ignition / Grey / Red
Tracer Long Range / Red / Red
Please note however that, over time, the colour may have disappeared and some cartridges weren't marked by all manufacturers. Alot of ball rounds have no colour on the annulus.
Cheers

Plenty of bits of grenade in that lot, and what lloks like a few bits from the inside of an artillery shell fuse. Now quit slacking and get 'em cleaned !
