An interesting few finds from a Victorian rifle range

Article about: so they don't re-detect them next time. I do the same with modern trash and shotgun shells. Dig them out then bury them all in one spot.

Nah......you never totally clear a site. I keep thinking the airbase I've been visiting for 3 years is cleared, but it keeps coming up with stuff.

Just saw you last post.....yes. Full cylinder. Git.

Ok i had another bash at this place, the craving to find something overcame me.Again pretty much of the same, now the 20mm really did suprise me as it was near a shelter, leading me to believe it may have been from an enemy strafing run? or anti aircraft battery?

Is that a base nut bottom right ?

And the 20mm......very nice. Sure it's solid shot ? If not, post it to DaveJB and he'll hit it with a hammer for you to check.

LOL ! Must be safe then. It's always nice when you trip over a find......saves a lot of digging and you can practice your swearing at the same time.

Not an enemy straffing run as previously thought but, at a target being towed by an aircraft.Commonly used down here due to the coast. Question is,why was this hoard of .303's found in one small pit? These .303's and the 20mm's were all found in the same area.20mm's facing the sea. ......and no i no longer have the 20mm's

Possibly a metal detectorist on the beach not interested in old bullets so discarded them in one pile so he didn't have to dig them next time he came ?
