Re: Metal detecting in eastern Carpathian mountains
The fights took place in the autumn of 1944 and lasted few weeks. The place is in Calimani and Gurghiu mountains. In this area Hungarian and German army tried to stop soviet offensive. I haven't found anywhere official information about this fight. The fights were tough and the soviet army didn't manage to break the defensive. In the end Hungarians and Germans had to retire because on 23rd august Romanian army turn the arms against axis forces.

Amazing, the peak is Negoiu. That area is forbidden for metal detecting because there is Calimani national park. I detect outside the park.
Have you ever been there?

Yes the place is amazing but many people search these areas. After the battle the dead soldiers were robbed of everything they had by local people. For example in two years of searching I have found only two helmets even if then, in the forests were thousands of them.
