Nice one JD !
Nice one JD !
Has anyone else noticed the dent (above the bolt). Obviously the bolt is 'mid slide', but should be set forward. The narrowest part of the damage is in front of the bolt, suggesting to me that the rifle was actually firing when the damage occurred! Mortar or artillery fire maybe? The safety switch is off too.
Also, the screw that connects the stock is bent, again suggesting that it took a blow of some sort.
The piece was found just to the south of Caen, across the Orne River, in a little village called Garcelles-Secqueville. This area was held by Michael Wittman's sSSPzAbt 101.
Another interesting fact, is the Stg44 was only mass distributed in late September 1944 (after Operation Goodwood). Prior to this, only units on the Ostfront recieved the MP43/MP44, and some SS units in Normandy.
I agree, that is quite the artifact. The worlds first assault rifle. Proud find! Lee
Just some battlefield found Stgw magazines if You are interested.
It's with a heavy heart that I have to sell this stunning relic!!
I'm moving house very shortly, and I need to drastically reduce my collection.
If anyone is interested, then please let me know.

Nice relic. I can see alot of acid remains (yellow dots), you may like to remove that with warm water, a brush and some sodium bicarbonate.
Regards
Matt
