That is what he sent, when I asked for some cool pic's of Iwo Jima. I know he has ALOT from when he was there. I'll see if he will just burn it to CD and send it to me.

The one pic looks like US flame thrower canisters???? anybody familiar with Japanese equipment? What those might be?
Thanks AZPhil, and yes that is exactly they appear to be, flamethrower canisters.

    More please!!!

IT hasn't changed too much in the 20 odd years since I went there.
    Hi Brad

Were you stationed on Iwo for any length of time? You said the tunnels still looked the same. How much of them did you get to see? Was that the official reasoning for the tunnels being "verbotten", remains and UXO?

Sorry if I am beating a dead horse, this fascinates me to no end. When I was in the Navy I would crawl over old Spanish forts in the Caribbean. I climbed almost to the top of Gibralter when the RAF asked me kindly to go away. I snuck into a castle/fortess on Corfu Greece that was off limits for a look around. Of course there were no remains or UXO there.

We were there as a "Nostalgiac Visit" and only stayed for 3 days. I still have a set of cammies that smell like sulpher.

This guy has a web site with pictures of the Japanese recovering some mummified bodies from a blown bunker on IWO, I think the pictures are from the 1980's.
