Just cleaned that bit of 'airframe' out of curiosity. Blow me if it didn't have a stamp on it !

Anyone got an idea what it is off?

FB is a Bristol Aeroplane Co. stamp I think??
'I do not think we can hope for any better thing now.
We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker of course, and the end cannot be far.
It seems a pity, but I do not think I can write more. R. SCOTT.

I have just ID'd another item from the visit.

I was having a play about with the top portions of the No. 848 nose fuze I recovered, in amongst which were two of these......

........which I always assumed formed part of the top column. However, I could not see how these little pieces fitted into the column. Whichever way I put them, however I moved them, they just didn't feel right.

So, I had a trawl through my British Bombs & Fuzes manual and, bugger me, found the little beggars !!

I had noticed that the longer portion with the groove and hole half way down had what looked like a percussion cap on the very top.

And would you credit it........that's exactly what it was

    Can you see it?

Want a bit of help ?

    Hehehehehe

Circled it for you in this pic

Those two bits are percussion caps from a No. 42 nose/tail fuze which has similar parts to an 848.

So I now have No 28 tail pistols, No 848 fuzes and No 42 & 849 fuze parts all from an area no bigger than 3 feet square. Can't wait to dig down and see what else is in there !!
