Relic NSDAP Pole top.
The fate of this poor old pole top mid 1945 was probably on the bonfire at the local tip I think. Pretty much un-displayable and in danger of falling completely to pieces I decided a gentle restoration was in order.
Under the burnt on ash I was sure a good patina was lurking.....
..... and sure enough after gentle cleaning with soapy water and a tooth brush there was indeed a nice finish. And a rummage in my shed turned up an old metal detecting find in the shape of a old brass door knob. Having been buried approx the same time it displayed the same patina. Amazingly the door knob fitted inside the pole top supporting the brittle brass perfectly.
A bit of filler to plug any gaps and things are starting to take shape....
As I didn't want to mount it on my door next on the agenda was the pole type ferrule. Another rummage produced a brass tube...
A bit of cutting and painting...
And finally drilled and painted the ferrule was joined to the door knob and the whole plot given a good coating of wax to produce a displayable relic. Perhaps not one for the purists but nothing has been done that cant be undone.
