I would say it is already to late for the helmet in image three looks to be lying on a piece of burlap to me or possibly a piece of carpet.

Found in austria, the helmet was hanging over the buttstock

Hi Mark,
I assume Harry meant this thread covering the same story. Good that you posted the pics here.

Whatever its just an opinion.
Somebody would nicked that years ago if it was in the UK..& failing that there would be an elf & safety issue with it so the council would have cut it up!!!.lol..Cheers Terry
Sorry Gents did not realize it had been covered all ready in a different thread .

beautifully macabre!
not to worry mark i missed this the first time round so great to see amazing mother nature ejecting these right out of the ground ,kind of like how the human body deals with splinters i guess ,i would imagine the root system is doing the very same thing out of sight to these relics too ,i also would think the enormous pressures exerted over time would slowly disintegrate the relic helmets and thinner metal objects ,the one that is most striking is the sapper shovel sticking right out of the tree like somebody just wedged it in there ,the only comparisson i can make to what ive seen is usually trees engulfing there stake ties and barbed fencing wire
Regards James
