The two items that you thought were trigger guages, on the photo of the Vickers, just below the traversing platform and to the front, there is a very similar looking piece except for the round ball like end facing the camera, could this be it, it seems that the other end of the piece is very similar and possibly the ball end piece is missing , hence the open tube in the ones you recovered

thank you for your generous offer
No problem eddy. There are literally hundreds of them there, but as Ade says, most are rusted to hell and back. The ones I've got are rusty as well, but the writing is visible. Just let me know when you're passing this way, (Leicestershire), and you can pop in and grab a couple.

Dave - Good spot but I don't think it's that bit. It looks to be steel and would probably be solid, not a tube like the two bits I can't ID. I thought they might be the containers for the barrel mirror but all the ones I can find don't have the cut angle on the end.

It would make sense if they were barrel mirrors, the offset mirror at that angle would give a proper look at the interior, and the hole peg at one end would be for the draw string

Yeah......my thoughts entirely. Only problem with the theory is the diameter of the items, which is about 50cal, much bigger than 303.

The item on the right appears to be a 'Pin, 'T' fixing rear crosspiece' from a Vickers.

I think It's badly corroded and missing one half of the 'T'.

I dont think thats a problem, bearing in mind what weve been finding on the site, could it be for a Boyes or a 50 cal barrel

    How very true.

What a lovely little chat we've had. And not once did either of us resort to jokes or digs.

See ! We can do it. Ya old bugger you.
