These pictures were taken during my many years in Iraq. This building is the famous building in which Saddam during a called out his political enemies in the auditorium and had them escorted out, most likely into the basement gas chamber below the building in which I discovered while using it as a storage room. The basic layout was as follows, the step down which you could see in the one picture, this led to a foot thick blast door. Inside this was a hallway that led to another blast door with a control panel. To the left in this hallway was a huge HVAC room. The HVAC system was enormous and that is what tipped me off to its real purpose. I mean the HVAC would have sufficed for a Manhattan office building. Then there were the controls on the wall with the red pipes that were written in German and had an east German symbol. Two of the pipes if I remember correctly had FORLUNG and VERTUNG or something like that on it.
Walking back past the second blast door was a series of cells, with small feeding slots. Some were stand up cells that did not allow the prisoner to sit down and some were larger possibly occupying several. I noticed that each cell had a large vent in the ceiling which I assume the gas was put into the cell. Then sucked back into the HVAC filters and then exhausted safely into the outside so the bodies could be collected and disposed of. I could not take pictures of the cells because it was too dark and but the one picture of the strange feet marks going up the wall is there. Any conjecture on this being a poison gas system will entertained because I am no expert. Thanks!
