Some finds in Russia from 2008.

Article about: Hi Reg, black tipped ammo is A/P. The rest look like ball ammo. They will all now get a military funeral and a marked grave and an identity if at all possible. Cheers, Ade.

Hi Guys, I found these pics. There is no info on the location. The mass grave was found during building work. As can be seen, most of the items found are Soviet, inc PTRD/PTRS 14.5mm anti tank rounds, a PTRS bipod, DP28 and mags, scout knife, personal effects of razor and mirror, fountain pen, etc.

The dog tag in the form of a black plastic tube, which the reel of paper came, from should give the id of the remains to at least one soldier.

    Cheers, Ade.

Interesting dig i wonder where it is ?

Hopefully they'll id some of them from the tags if he filled it in, many Russian troops considerd it bad luck to fill in the details or put the paper inside which is why many are found with no details

Hi Paul, there were no details with the story.

I have heard about the "bad luck" story surrounding filling in the dog tag papers. I cannot see much written on that one, unless it was done in pencil.

    Cheers, Ade.

More great stuff there Ade! It looks to be in a well populated area. Perhaps construction was going on when they were found. I wonder what will be done with the remains. You know,German and Russian. Another type of mass grave with a monument of some sort? I guess there are plenty of other past digs with the same circumstances. And I guess I never gave it much thought till this post. Thanks for sharing ,again!

Poor Sods! At least Ild have thought they would get a decent burial now, interesting to note the inconsistant arrangement of rounds in the DP28 mags though.

Ade! you know im only just getting into ww2 Russian stuff, but are the black tipped rounds tracer and the silver headed ball ammunition?
    Cheers
    Reg
