Some finds in Russia from 2008.

Article about: Hi Reg, black tipped ammo is A/P. The rest look like ball ammo. They will all now get a military funeral and a marked grave and an identity if at all possible. Cheers, Ade.

Poor Sods! At least Ild have thought they would get a decent burial now, interesting to note the inconsistant arrangement of rounds in the DP28 mags though.

Ade! you know im only just getting into ww2 Russian stuff, but are the black tipped rounds tracer and the silver headed ball ammunition?
    Cheers

Ya have a couple good points there Reg, but my previous post referring to the re-burial, stated as much. After a blow up of the cartridges,it does appear the black tipped ones could well be armor piercing. But at the time, they may well have put in what they had handy at the time. (you know, availability?) And BTW...just what does "poor sod's" refer to?

    Hi Pakin9
Just a Brit phrase, expressing sympathy! In this case the lads who just got crammed into a communal grave at the time, I agree too that they must have been hard up for supplies at the time, had they tracer available they could have put a few in every 5 or so so know if they were on target, or mabe they counted on getting so close they were going to be sure of getting the rounds on.

    Cheers
    Reg

The Silver Tip may have once been Red but wore off so The round would be an Armour Piercing( Black) Incendiary ( Red Tip) Round...

Tracer would be Green, an Armour Piercing /Tracer is Violet Tipped, and Red with a Violet Tip is a ... Armoured Piercing , Incendary Tracer.
