I concur with Paul & Ian, the remains are part of a Turbo Supercharger Cooling Convection Cap, this was bolted above the bucket wheel on two curved brackets with the scoop facing into wind, this ducted cold air to the central exhaust side of the bucket wheel to prevent the vanes from overheating.

The whole charger unit had a maze of ductings squirting air all around the main compression chamber to keep the unit cool enough to prevent the lubricating oil from reaching flash point & igniting, the material used is AAF Spec AN-QQ-S-757 or commercially known as Stainless 321, however after repeated heating & cooling cycles the material becomes very brittle & crumbles which is probably why your example is incomplete & was discarded.

Here is a picture of the B-17 & 24 charger units we found with & without the caps. The second picture is a P-47 charger & it's almost twice the size of the other two.

Yup, Bendix Stromberg PD-12H2 carburettor screen, as fitted to all Wright Cyclone R-1820-97 engines on B-17s.

    Here's mine:

Hughes Adaptor Plate for flexible ammunition feed, the Hughes tracking has a sprung loaded fitting on the gun end which slides down over the plate & locks into place, there is a length here awaiting collection....
Here are some photos of the end of a piece of flexifeed that fits over the adaptor pate and allso some shots of them place on a .50.

This rusty lump would be attached to the side of a 50cal and is the part the flexifeed fits on to. Does anyone know if its got a proper name.?
Flexible Chute Adapter/Mount Assembly, various types depending on date:

    C-2 (LH feed) 37B2675
    C-2 (RH feed) 37B2675-1

    C-3 (LH feed) 39B3905L
    C-3 (RH feed) 39B3905R

    C-3A (LH feed) 43A6953L
    C-3A (RH feed) 43A6953R

All types fit both Hughes Aircraft Co. and Smoot-Holman manufactured flexible tracking, the two main patterns used in B-17s and B-24s.

Here are a couple more bits. Is the funny shaped bit with the vents in part of a super charger as well?
The other part has this scratched on it 8402590FW but its very hard to see.

The vent looks similar to the demister between the windscreens on a B-17, give me 5 minutes to check.
