Nice flare base. Never seen one marked like that before. All mine (and I have about 30) have no marks at all !!!! Lucky bugger !

The A-1 Bomb Release Receptacle fits on the reverse side of the bomb rack, behind each A-2 or A-4 Bomb Release.
It's the electrical connection for them.
Nice one PB i would have made a guess that thats where they went. Top marks again!!

Could you make a note of the M-x markings on the flares please? I can identify the colour combinations from those.

M11: Signal, Aircraft, Parachute, Red Star
M16: Signal, Aircraft, Parachute, Green Star

These signals were intended for use following a forced-landing, being fired with the usual M2 or M8 signal pistols. All of this series bar the M11 were made Limited Standard by 1942.

This came from a 9th Air Force base in the week it dosnt really fit in hear but i dont see the point in starting another thread. The Air Base had A20 HAVOC'S and Horsa gliders and dekotas to pull them. It looks like a wheel bracket or somthing but horsa gliders are not really my thing does any one have any photos of horsa wheels?

The lamp looks similar to a B-24 bomb bay lamp seen here

The other multi holed part looks like a wing spar attachment point, often there was a wooden core to it which looks like it may have decomposed.

Well i must say it looks the same but we only had B17s. Did the B17 have bomb bay lights?
