Hi Gents,
The CCC relic is interesting as it was first awarded in Nov. 1942 I believe. If it was found in Volgagrad that would make it a very early issue.
By Nov 1942 the caudron was in dire straits and these may have been flown in to boost moral, maybe.
Nice find i feel.
Cheers
Dave
Have to escape and evade, the boss is coming.
Hi,
No doubt in my mind these are relics but if the geographic location of the finding is important (Stalingrad?) one has to wonder what possible military, sentimental or whatever "special appeal" a 5 year old or more tinnie (1937 Tag der Arbeit) could have had for anyone fighting on either side to be found there...

You've hit the nail on the head with the word 'sentimental'. German troops on the Eastern Front were very prone to homesickness and the carrying of small personal mementoes and keepsakes was common. I think also in this case 'Stalingrad' is used in the broad sense - unlikely for men fighting hand-to-hand in the Barrikady Factory to be bothered with keepsakes, but there were many support troops out in the pocket. I always view the provenance of such relics with a jaundiced eye, but in this case the 'digger' in question does live there and seems to spend time rummaging in old rubbish tips......
