nice dog tag, you are so lucky to get to dig at probably one of the top 10 historical battlefields in history, well imho, keep up the good work. I have enjoyed seeing all the artifacts that you have found, it's not something you get to see in america, unless its in some museum, who knows maybe you can write a book & catalog your finds and become rich. good luck to you, if you should find an mg42, I will trade you my cherry 1995 mustang gt convertible for it. I bought it from the original owner . best of luck to you.

    my regards
    Marty

bless you that you post once again. As was said before, in America, we have no such places to dig as do you. I hope for you much success and maybe some secret gold or gems, and that you become famous and rich. Even if only by TV and maybe a book or two.

Oh I don't know . Friend of mine had a Bren Carrier shipped across to the U.K. from Canada. It's now fully restored and looking good. Obviously not ground dug.

    Pic's on profile.

    Sebastien,
Excellent thread and fascinating to see what you dig up, certainly more fruitfull than here in Italy.

I have some questions about where you live.
I was looking at Google Earth in the Gumrak & Gorodisсhe area and my radar immediately picked up on what appears to be trenches, pits and other fortifications in and around the ravines and valleys that run through the area.
If you don't mind taking the time and checking out the following coordinates and telling me what you know about these areas.
These coordinates are very much generalised because there are simply too many earthworks and groupings to pick them all out precisely.

    48°48'31.56"N 44°21'46.52"E
    48°48'28.34"N 44°22'20.46"E
    48°48'19.91"N 44°22'46.33"E
    48°48'10.83"N 44°23'6.76"E
    48°48'29.46"N 44°23'24.46"E
    48°48'16.61"N 44°23'54.05"E
    48°49'24.38"N 44°25'2.41"E
    48°49'16.13"N 44°24'32.74"E
    48°50'59.26"N 44°26'10.80"E
    48°50'56.28"N 44°26'50.31"E
    48°50'50.95"N 44°27'24.93"E

There are also two other peculiarities I'm interested in.
First, is the three large lines that are to the West and North of this whole area and which then run South. Are they the filled in anti-tank ditches that you see the civilians digging out on the old cine films?

Secondly, I noticed that the ravines and gulleys also have thick lines that follow their shape. Were these ditches that were dug around the defences in the ravines?
    48°48'52.46"N 44°25'2.50"E
    48°50'25.72"N 44°26'2.98"E

    Cheers,
    Tom.

Sebastien, after starting to look yesterday or the day before, I just finished the entire thread, and I can only say I envy you. I admire you for sharing all this with so many others, and I respect you for taking care of the dead soldiers. I think you should keep digging. If you don't, these pieces of history will lie beneath the steppes forever, their story lost. We can never know the last minutes of these brave mens' lives, Russian and German alike, but we can remember them and keep them alive in our hearts.

I can't speak for others, but this was worth a donation, which I made even before I had finished. Let's make sure this superb site remains up and running!

    Cheers to you Sebastian!
