    The small gun might be a OSS Liberator that wass dropped to resistance groups. Cheaply made single-shot 45ACP pistols.

    That could definitely be the case. Just the right size.
    Any large caliber pistol bullets in the dig hole?

    If memory serves there might be a mag of bullets, around 8 rounds up in the metal case. Pics looked like half of the handle may be rusted off though.

    The pistol is definitely not a Liberator but is in fact a German Em-Ge MIII pistol.

    The "lift the dot" buttons in the bottom-most pic of post #841 may be from US Lend-Lease web gear.

    You're good freind! After seeing your pics I would have to concur "German Em-Ge MIII"!
    This was one of the reasons I asked about Larger caliber shells, "Lend Lease or secret drop" but alas, you ruined my theory with that picture!
