During our visit in Croatia, Yugoslavia in the past, we found these relics along the railroad. Does anybody know what these objects are?

They appear to be "pill boxes", possibly dating from the second world war and related to securing the railway from partisan attacks.
I think Anderson is correct. They look to be hurriedly erected and not of the strongest construction - I have seen similar ones on the German 'Trasimeno Line' in Tuscany. They would be effective against small arms fire.
