Question, - is mustard gas bombs or canisters that both sides used during the great war are they still around and active or has the gas dissolved with time ???

Many of the gas shells and bombs are, indeed, still around and are fully active-even today.

They are still around, still full, and still totally active. Most of the gases used in WW1 do not denature over time unless exposed to the atmosphere/soil. Even then, they can still cause harm. One story I was told was of a guy helping out on an official WW1 trench dig when he came across a piece of leather folded in half. He opened it out to examine it, decided it was unidentifiable and put it to one side. 30 minutes later his fingers began to blister and within an hour was in hospital receiving treatment for the burns caused by whatever the agent was that was preserved in the leather.

The mustard gas bombs/canisters are found very rarely .
depending on how well the shell is ,make the difference on how dangerous it is.

You are correct, the death are mostly from ww1 munitions.I was told it will take 500 years to get all this shells and other munitions out of the land.100 years now and the land is still covered with shell and Verdun is so bad you have red zones where you can t go in. The Chemin des dames you have woods with barwires for people not to go because it is so dangerous.
Here's a picture of a warning sign a few years ago at Vimy Ridge.
