Thanks for the information guys and the safety advice !

The 50 cal bullets are, as you rightly point out, colour coded. I am extremely careful with these items and they are treated with the greatest care and kept in a nice cold environment. Namely, in my cupboard in the garden shed ! Any damaged bullets are left in the ground where i find them

I am indeed an avid relic hunter.....but I ain't stupid

Relichunter...the number 109 on the part identifies it as a P-51D Mustang. I am 550km from home and my parts lists are there. If you send me the whole number I can tell you were the part sat on the Mustang. Danny

    Really ? OH COOL !

The numbers are 109-66047 which is repeated at right angles further round the part but with a '2' included (109-66047-2). just off the middle of the part is a stamp that reads ASSAM and then in the centre of the piece is a stamp within a circle ANA 598.

Many thanks for this Danny......you have made me really happy ! In one visit i got an identifiable piece of a lightning, a Merlin engine AND a P-51D !!!

The silver plate-like object looks as though it is P-51 related ... the ANA marking indicates North American Aviation. The cap is a fuel cap from 108 gallon Bowater drop tank ... I've found dozens of them at other American fighter bases.

From the little you reveal about the airfield & its occupants ... I wonder if it could be Kxxxgsxxxe ... just a guess!
I go in my backyard and I find nothing but X box pieces ................im jelous
