Packin9 - I use a fairly basic detector. Bounty Hunter Tracker. It does me very nicely and will detect small objects down to a decent depth and large objects just short of Australia. The casings and small items tend to be around 8-10inches down. The larger objects tend to be slightly less deep although i did find one of the stubs at around 18inches. There is alot of metal roadway left on the site and I have found this down at 2 foot.

Thanks for the reply relichunter. I have a MP3 Pro. It works pretty good. I have thought about a Bounty Hunter or Whites. But....$$$$$$$ is a little short these days. I bet you sure hit your fair share of roots!

Roots caught me out once in the Ardennes....but they shall never catch me out again

As I have worked quite a bit on older cars from the 40´s I have som ideas on the caps in your picture below.

The top right is probably an cap to an Lucas relay. Older headlight on cars relays looks like this. And Lucas is a brittish make so perhaps its the cap to somekind of relay to a brittish car or airplane.

The other ones I think is somekind of breathercaps to engines. The top left one is most probable an old breather cap with its internal filter missing/removed. Have seen this type on flathead engines from the chrysler corp. The cap below looks like somekind of breathercap aswell

The Lucas relay is a pretty basic electrical component
