And with the way the Germans are meticulous with their machines and tools, they would have never let a "wrench" that didn't fit snugly on the nut go. To cut two more flats in the engagement surface would have taken no time versus the poor fit that is shown on that example. Why grip the nut on only two sides when you could grip on four?
Actually the picture in black and white seems to indicate that the one photographed may actually grip on four sides. Also, that one is if a thinner gage material, quite a bit so. The swastika stamp has even caused slight deformation.
Maybe there were some real ones made, but the rusty one doesn't even look like the photo used to prove it is real!
