Early SA dagger by Gustav Wirth, rare SA maker

Article about: Glenn, i see what you mean, you can hardly see it with the naked eye, lots of my other SA's have a similar mark, its the fabric mark as far as i can see. Tighten it with a certain tork (Nm)

    Picked this one up today.
A uncommon maker for SA daggers, Gustav Wirth, gau Pommern.
Almost full cross-grain, nice dark patina on the grip, great silver grip eagle, scabbard is anodized and fitting are of course the silver/nickel type, it has a small dent in the scabbard finial ( ball)
overall i like it big Time!!
    Enjoy the pictures..Cheers Ger

Very nice! But is that a burr on the tang nut I see? Indicating this has been apart at some time?

No it had a small blow on the head, the dent is from above, as far i can see its never taken apart! Cheers Ger

Thats cool, no offense to your lovely dagger. I was just noticing the wear to the tang nut. Nothing major but I do believe I see a minor loosening mark and a major tightening mark on the nut. For all I know this happened at the factory. A great piece none the less and I should hope to be so lucky as to own such an example one day.

    Thx Mac!

this is what Johnsson says about his Wirth Dagger:
Early SA Dagger by RARE Maker. GUSTAV WIRTH, SOLINGEN GRAFRATH with W in dotted circle etched TM. Both Ralph Siegert's SA book and the "McSarr" list rate this maker a "10"; the rarest category.

maybe he has a different list? one just for selling? LOL!

    Ger
