I bought this in Oct 2006 from a Craigslist ad in Hartford CT. I bought it from the vets nephew. It had been stored with what I was told was a Bakelite glaze. But it looked like cosmoline. I cleaned it only to the point of removing the glaze very carefully as to not damage the burnishing.

I can imagine what the runners look like inside

Im not a fan of putting any oils, lubricants and greases on the blades. Nice to see you rescued the blade from further depreciation.

Maybe you have a Haenel to complete the trio ? you`re 2 for 3

Haenel made lovely grips on their Daggers, but also used that same great wood on their rifle's!
    Very nice low step!
