Hi Rich have you picked this up at the Gun show in your area? The name on the fittings looks good..IMO. There is a screw missing from the upper scabbard fitting..which also makes as if the throat opening was removed at one time..and not placed back in correctly..so the previous owner gave up. The Carrying ring as Kurland has pointed out has been replaced.
A salty old dog of a dagger..being the early type..except for the snap clip being Mid to late period..this most likely was an add on recently.
More photos would be nice to see of the motto..and on top of the upper crsosguard.

Hi Rick,

this is a very salty NSKK dagger.
Missing its side screw on the throat and as mentioned the replaced hanger ring.
Im not having problems with the hammered name.
Most likely done by the owner himself.
Its been double stamped on some letters, and the names dont line up when placed in the scabbard.
The normally engraved ones are done more careful and often line up beautifully.
I personlly think this is done by the Original owner and in war.
If it would be done postwar by a collector it would be done with more precision.
