Article about: Hi I recently bought this NSKK My concern about this is the offcenter rzm mark. Is it a fake. I like the crossgrains though. Reg Lars

The RZM is fine. Personally, I would be more concerned with the wood to upper guard fit. It May be simple shrinkage, but it certainly is pushing the limits of acceptable/non-acceptable.

The shrinking is 1-2 mm and similar each side.
That is acceptable to me and not unusual though
it is more disereable with No gabbing.

    Hi Lars,

looking at the scabbards pics i see 3 different ones, all with a paint job, im totally missing the bright high gloss shine on all three.
No spidering on each one, and on all there is a difference in colour, making it thinner on different parts.
Britte break parts on wear are also not found.
Totally not what i expect on wartime paint.
Looking at your SA scabbard then i see that all scabbard screws have been removed and not put back in a proper way, for me all these scabbards have had a paint job.
Im also concerned about the huge gap between the scabbard throat and the lower crossguard, the rounding just doesnt fit.
I'm not sure this one belongs to the dagger.
The overall skrinking of not well dried wood on late daggers is possible, but i have seen way better late rzm's then this one.
Before buying better post them, perhaps the advise afterwards can be a bit painful, sorry...

    Thanks for your advice, comments
I guess I try to return my RAD + DRK
hewers to the well known and often referred to "safe"dealers.
Luckily They hewers are certified, wish me good luck.
    No Mentioned no one forgotten.
I thank you once again for your expertise.
    Regards
    Lars

You may be right about the repaint of the scabbard Ger I also can not discover some spidering and the fitting screws seems to be removed, so we can say that work has been done to this dagger. But IMO the gap between the scabbard throat and lower crossguard looks quite normal for this late daggers so it could belongs together.

No one likes giving negative opinions on items that obviously cost the collector decent money, but I have to say that it is almost certain that the NSKK has been tinkered with. If at all possible, I would suggest returning it. It would not be for my collection.

    About the black scabbard:
isn't it so the brown scabbards were simply re-painted in 1936 into black
(and in later years when an SA-member resigned and joined the NSKK).
With this it is possible that this was not done as how it should and not
all will have a professional painted black scabbard? Just a question!

And a good question it is! A "converted SA to an NSKK"? True, this may, of course, have been possible, if, say, an SA man joined the NSKK and didn't want to pony up for a new dagger's price, and I'm sure that this was done in more than one case. But then you would have the question of When was it done? The lack of spidering in the paint surfaces suggests a later post-war rather than a period conversion.

This could be the fact if it would be an early one.
We have a late rzm one here.
This one should be with a factory paint as its a late type scabbard
    See the fittings and screws

Where is it written it should be factory paint? It is only said: black and to be burned
    (schwarz lackiert und gebrannt).

And yes in later years an SA-man could step over to the NSKK. Until 1939 this was published
(in late 1938 many members from the SA went to the NSKK). When the war had started it
was not mentioned anymore (as many things were not officially mentioned anymore), but it
surely will have happened, as they needed skilled driving personnel for wartime transportation
    forces.

And what is an early one! The painting for a black scabbard did happen since early summer 1936
and was officially arranged with the uniform-regulation of late 1936. It was noted it was to be
arranged by NSKK-units themselves (order I 3613/36 from Hühnlein - die Einheiten können
    die Schwarzfärbung vornehmen lassen
). They surely will have tried it to get done at lowest
    costs.

    I am studious to know!
