Looks to me like the blade was cleaned heavily. Is there a space between the blade and the cross guards?
Crossguards fit are good on the grip, i see some crossgrain left above the motto, is the top nut loose? this could explain the poor fit to the bottom crossguard and blade, whats the fit like with the scabbard?
cheers Ronnie
Except for the blade being cleaned, it looks like a nice one.
Could you post macro pics of the eagle.........?
Regards,
Steve.
Hi Jezo,, as Ronnie points out that it is possible that this dagger was opened at one time. Sometimes the tang nut clearance openeing on the lower crossguard is made a little snug,,which returning the blade back to the guard might be a tight fit. This can be wiggled down a bit to meet the guard. The "Sw" gruppe mark is correct for this maker. This looks to be a decent looking example.
The scabbard is mid to late period by the plated fittings seen. its hard to tell in the photo if the scabbard is anodized or a very aged paint job which in the 3rd photo seems to express a scratch towards the lower fitting that is common to see on painted scabbards.
The hanger is or is almost black. If you take a close look with an Eye loop you may see remnants of an RZM number on the back side of the hanger. Regards Larry

Thats a nice looking Herder A.S.
it has the typical eagle that Herder used.
Herder is also known by its very dark anodized scabbards, i will post a picture of mine so you can compare, look at the eye inlay of the eagle and its dark scabbard.
The tang is marked with the 2 crossed keys in the middle, so if its already open you can see for your self.
Cheers,
Ger
