I think the runners are damaged?
I really do not want to take it apart

Hello Tony. Looks original late war painted type to me. Possibly repaint. I think at some point it was diassembled and put back together with the incorrect screws (too large from the looks of it) that could the cause of the obstruction. Jmo. Best regards

Neither fittings belong to this scabbard.
Look at the upper fitting to the scabbard paint which shows much.
The glue on the screws is obvious making it messed with and the reason why it doesnt fit.
The late types compared to the early type scabbards do vary in tightness.
Not all SA daggers will fit the same in each scabbard.
Shoe sizes vary also in the same size by the producer and by the foot width.
Hopefully you did not pay much for this and IMO is not worth anything in its current messed with condition.
Return it if you can
