    Omg I looked at that spot and thought it was a strange blemish..never giving thought to the gruppe mark being removed...I will blame exhaustion lol. As far as why it was removed...maybe the GI thought it was someones initials but definitely a weird thing to do.

    Just speculating but I wonder if it was sold post war by a relative of the original owner and they mistakenly thought the Gruppe mark might identify the original owner.
