Hi Pammy !
It's good to see this on the tang.
The letter (or letters) on the crossguard is the locale where the dagger
was issued from. ie: 'No' = 'Nordsee '..... 'SW' = 'Sud West'.....etc.
You should be able to find a list on the net, or possibly a thread
on the forum. It is interesting to know.
Regards, Steve.
thanks so much steve!!,is this why there is no mark on cross gaurd?
no i dont think so as its just a purple/dark brown look.as to the tang on blade what does that mean?thanks steve
Hi, Pammy !
The stamp on the tang is called a 'proof mark' sometimes used as an acceptance mark
from a factory or forge. This is common practice in the making of blades from many
countries. It means the blade is 'worthy' and that certain manufacturing standards
have been achieved - It has been "Proved".
Hope this helps......... !

Pammy,
Prior the RZM system was implanted SA daggers issueds from the SA gruppes was inspected directly for the gruppes and they marked it's crossguards with the gruppe initials as a inspection markings. But some SA members purchased they daggers out they SA units, directly from the makers. These daggers don't had the SA inspection markings applied on it's crossguards.
