OK guys i stand corrected but that is to me a big step on the crossguard and have honestly never seen one like that (apart from a couple of Suhl makers) thanks for the lesson guys

I have to agree that the grip is a possible replacement, the hex nut has been in the jaws of a pair of pliers, which suggests to me that the grip has been off at one time or other, or its been tightened down because of a poor fit
Sorry to say but here are my 2 cents: I think the grip has been replaced, we are talking about a transitional, its 1937,1938 the Reich wasnt in war yet......no room for poorly fit grips like this.
This grip does not fit in the guards, not in thickness or width....
Otherwise a nice dagger.
