Hi Stefan that thought also had crossed my mind of the post war eagle addition ...although the attention to this dagger is great but I would like to uncover the truth about the whereabouts if this dagger prior to the uprising... This is more geared to the SA dagger collector and the restoration people. Wagriff came the closest. We need to know the identity if the dagger producer which is obvious for the dagger collector... From there we can find out if it was possible for this particular maker to be at this location specified in the title of this thread. Good luck

Any Thoughts why this SA dagger was in Poland in the ghetto..while the Germans still had control of the SA in their country?

I cant see why a ghetto would be open as late as august '44 when many of the surrounding death camps (sobibor, treblinka, chelmo) were already closed or destroyed ?

I don't think the German High Command expected the Red Army to move as fast and as unstoppable as they did.

Where did the ghetto get introduced - Warsaw or otherwise?

Are we simply confusing the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943 with the later Warsaw Rising of 1944? But in any case AK Kiliński Battalion did not operate in the former ghetto area, the ruins of the ghetto were captured by AK Zośka and Wacek battalions.

BTW, the Red Army was not unstoppable, it stopped dead in its tracks in the Praga district of Warsaw on the East bank of the Vistula where it watched and waited for the German forces to finally crush the Polish rebellion on the other side of the river at the beginning of October 1944. It was not until after the Germans had emptied the city of all of the surviving Varsovians, deported them to POW camps or civilian forced labour camps, then demolished the city block by block that the Red Army decided it was safe to gear up again, cross to the West bank of destroyed and emptied Warsaw and liberate the few that remained in hiding in the city on 17 January 1945.

Ok good information..... This dagger is a Suhl maker so I ask someone what markings come with an early SA dagger ? There is a choice of 3 producers who distributed to 3 SA Gau Districts. What are they? Look at the site map? And then look at the area of the uprising. Regards Larry
