I was out for my sunday drive and saw this bayonet ... I'm not interested in buying it ... just thought I'd post some pics for feedback... I also took pics of a ring... what do you think?

Don't know if its genuine but it looks Kool

looks to me like a butchered k98 bayo................never seen anything like it
A fake sir.
This etching is made post war IMO. It looks brand new compared to the rest of the piece. It just looks wrong, and why put it on a bayonet. I'm not even sure they did this in the first place. Also no SS stamps. To me it looks off, wrong, post war, fake and fantasy.
Even when it's fake, it looks very cool and is collectible just to show what's not good!!! You can make an own fake itemcollection just to compare how it's not done.
Don't give to much money on it. Try to trade for something.
Cheers.
Kris.
Funny how all the fancyschmantzy stuff looks so much cleaner than the rest of an otherwise crappy-looking bayonet. No good IMHO.
A very good decision. What I think is that while this example is more heavily rusted than most, it’s still the same story. After polishing the metal clean so that new markings can be applied to a little or no value 98K bayonet. A set of fantasy etchings is then applied onto the bare metal. Thereby altering a relatively valueless piece into what the fakers hope will be a bayonet with a much higher sales price - because it now has "SS" markings. With some of these fakes catering to the more well known formations. And others to the more obscure units, for the guys who have to have all of the "variations" (including some that never really existed).

I agree..... !
Commemorative etching usually appears on
dress bayonets, not combat types.........

Steve.
I agree with Steve-it makes no sense. A modern fake. William
