DD m40 police helmet ground find

hi kameraden
got this m40 Double decal police helmet. My friend cleaned it first with white spirit and after he did a oxalsour bath from 2 houres and a lot of rust came off the piece. Also the SS decal has came to surface after carefully scrubbing the paint / rust away . It is not a good decal but its clear its a DD. I know the left decal is not correct. Maybe somebody can tell me more about that cross over that police decal.

We think its a feldgendarmerie reissue .

Maybe its just me, but all i see is a party decal, and remains of another decal, but there's no way to tell if its SS or a tricolor etc.

Looks like a Polizei eagle under the party decal , this means it probably was reissued to the SS.

All things considered, it's amazing that there is any decal left to talk about ...... damn resilient things these!!

No way to ever know for sure, but this was my first impression as well. Jim G.

Very special relic and unique piece to have in hand, knowing that it was found in the vicinity of the Russian city of Novgorod where units of the Waffen-SS and the Wehrmacht broke through the lines in September of 1941.
In my opinion too this must be an SS-relic, as the Partei decal is located on the left, on top of a Polizei decal. This almost certainly means that the remains on the right are that of an SS-decal and that the helmet was reissued to the SS early in the war.
