Hi everyone
I want to share my experiences in the use of oxalic acid (Thanks for the advice my friend from Spain).
I convinced my friend to do a little clean up a German helmet. We used a light solution of oxalic acid.
I think I was able to improve the brightness of the decals and colors. Very well washed leather liner. You can see the ink inscriptions ex owners. Autograph owners of 4 pieces.
HERE Photos the wet helmets before cleaning

The difference is small, but Dean and liner more clean, I think so...

You can see the sharp contrast of fragments of paint and corrosion (rust). But after a wipe with natural wax or engine oil, it will be an excellent result.
I think this work is not bad for this German helmet
I certainly would not put engine oil anywhere near this helmet, it has a habit of ruining old items like this
yes, maybe wax or just leave it as it is.
The one thing thats bugging me is the liner, did you remove it or disassemble it , the seam should be at the back, if its easy enough try to relocate the leather but only if its not to far gone
Thanks for the advices!!!
I will tell about that to my friend
Amazing finds, those are very nice helmets.
This German helmet I already showed here on the forum...
Several days ago I restored this helmet.
