Pity no one actully knows what happend to relics. More fun not knowing
This is unusual. The spacing between the dents look as if this helmet was run over by a tracked vehicle, made by the track pads/road shoes. If this happened in mud, sand or really soft earth then the helmet would had been depressed into the ground after initial contact. Maybe someone can take some measurements and see if this is a possibility. Just a theory. Thanks.
Look at the shape from the underside photo. The helmet was compressed on opposite sides equally perhaps for a salvage or scrap metal process that was aborted or something.

I had a similar idea to the tracked vehicle theory, I m not sure about how th scrap metal process works, I would hav thought they would hsv just been melted down......maybe.
It would have had to have been a small tracked vehicle...kettenkrad possibly, maybe h owner was killed, helmet left on the ground, run over, very quickly, or flicked away as it was run over and buried
When I get it I will measure thr gaps
I saw this one too. It was on there for quite a while.
You could straighten it but it will lose it's character.
Almost looks as though someone has stood
on it or something. If only these things
could talk........
Regards,
Steve.
Definitely leaving it how it is, not interested in trying to increase it's value....it tells a story, not sure what story, but just an unusual relic
I reckon during the period somebody got angry with it
Strong man contest????
