Not sure if any projectile would make such a big ding, that helm fell from somewhere .
-
Thats one heck of a dent.
-
That would have given you a hell of a head ache if you had been wearing it.

That is not a bullet/shell strike , more like a lump hammer! Anything that would have created such a "ding" would have split this helmet through. It is possible "flying" debris caused it , but I would be more inclined to think a bored fool belted it one. Leon.

Im inclined to agree. A 'soft' hit by debris as opposed to an extremely fast grenade splinter.
Either that or someone belted it one as FALLSCHIRMJAGER says.

I know the person who found it and he definitely did not mess it up

We meant no offence.
To me, it simply doesnt scream grenade splinter and certainly not a rifle projectile hit.
Consider some of the ripped ground found helmets and shot through lids, we see here.
But...and thats a big BUT, odd things happen in the fog of war. Never say never.
You might have told us, that it was found thus

Perhaps it was disabled after capture (or immediately before) to prevent it being reused.
