I do not think its a bullet hole entry
Nothing to say this helmet was being worn when the damage was caused or in fact how it was caused !!

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Hi and welcome to the forum,a nice relic helmet you have there, although i would personally say that i would not be to keen on having what could possibly be a KIA lid. Just seems a bit to much for me. That said i think yours just may be a hole caused by a potshot with a low calibre weapon without the worst of outcomes! Leon.
Looks more like the end of a pick axe !!
It was found in a barn in a village where germans have been fighting partisans. A 7,62x54 round perfectly fits in the hole.
Those are old pics, i will take some new. Helm is a bit darker now since i oiled it.
