This helmet was in BAD shape there was big clumps of rust that would fall off it and deep pitting and a hole in the top, there was no paint and no decals on it so I just restored it.

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

"just restored it"..hmm...not quite the terminology that I would have used...

Thanks for the link Andy. The wire actually looks good from the pics, but it would be nice to see it "in hand".
Excuse me for being a little blunt here Goon. Relics have rust and often cakes of it. That is why they are called relics. Without the wire(if the wire is period attached) a restoration could be not a bad call. Let us say the wire is period attached, you destroyed a rare relic helmet. I do not understand why you made the "restoration". I hope this is a bad joke.
Yes guys I know I have made a big mistake by doing this
does B&Q stay open that late?dave
Items like these should always be kept as "dug up". A garden hose to remove mud and dirt, that's all. Period! With relics you have to think about the original aging can NEVER be put back on. Relics come to their right so to speak in their original wear, tear and aging. With relics you will never gain anything by touching them etc. Yes i am a relic lover
I'm also like relic helmets and I have learned not to do this again and learned my lesson for now on. Datrus I have a relic m35 that I just cleaned up and revealed tons of paint and 2 heer decals!
