Re: M40 Relic with strange wire

I'm also like relic helmets and I have learned not to do this again and learned my lesson for now on. Datrus I have a relic m35 that I just cleaned up and revealed tons of paint and 2 heer decals!
Ahh Goon, we live and learn my friend. ....what's done is done - just don't do it again!
There are many ways to "limit' further corrosion and your intent was admirable to a point but now you know the rarity of wired helmets ( which before obviously you didn't ) the next one you find, give us all a look BEFORE any work takes place. We don't mean to dictate - and the helmet is yours to do with what you wish - but there is a lot of experience on this form that it would be wise to draw upon ....... we are happy to help.

Re: M40 Relic with strange wire
Yes I will make sure to post any future helmets I get and get a better opinion from some experts. I will be posting a helmet that I just cleaned up later today

Re: M40 Relic with strange wire
Not the one you cleaned off the paint to get at the decals? Thats 2 strikes Goon...relax, take a chill-pin and consider your actions before hooking into the wire brush and spray cans.

Re: M40 Relic with strange wire

Re: M40 Relic with strange wire
With relic lids I believe cleaning off the mud and crusty rust is acceptable but a restoration should only be considered for lids that have no trace of their former lives left. Hence my collection of clean (but non-restored) relic lids.
The M40 Police in the middle is of course a non-relic.

What is that odd knife in the frame above? It looks like a Samurai letter opener!
