Some collectors don't like these so-called 'KIA' helmets. Personally, I think that they're reflective of the horrors of war. A relic with holes torn through it does more to convey the grisly nature of conflict than an intact one ever can.
The preservative nature of swamps never cease to amaze me. The things that can be pulled out of them, even hundreds of years later, and still be intact are incredible.

The damage was likely done by shrapnel, the holes look far too messy to be direct bullet hits. But the owner didn't stand much chance at that.

Very nice helmet! I also have a M40 that was pulled from a bog. It amazes me how well preserved these relics can be if left in the right conditions. Congratulations on this new addition!
