As you read in my post I was in Victoria at the time of purchase, the name of the store is The Command Post of Militaria and is just in front of the mall there.

As most of the members have said this lid is very fragile so leave it as it is. If you want to do something against the rust, and realy only if.. you could use wd-40 against the rust. If you use something that's to "strong" you will damage your helmet and it could fall a part. Nice lid anyway!

And btw i wasnt refering to more rust removal guys, i was wondering if a coat of varnish or something maybe good for it to seal up the rust and slow corosion.
